Bolan - Leading Security Turnstile Gate Manufacturer & Supplier Since 2011

Office Building and Corporate Lobby Access Control Solutions

An office building access control solution combines pedestrian gates, credential readers, access controllers and building operating procedures to manage movement between public reception areas and authorized workspaces. BOLAN Security supplies speed gates and swing turnstiles for corporate lobbies, with project-specific reader integration, lane layouts and OEM/ODM customization.

The right entrance layout helps employees move through at busy times, gives reception a clear process for visitors and provides a suitable route for wheelchair users and people carrying deliveries. Gate selection should start with the building's access policy, available space and peak arrival pattern.

What an office lobby access control system should achieve

Corporate headquarters, multi-tenant offices and business parks face different access requirements. A headquarters may prioritize employee entry and brand presentation. A shared office building must also separate tenant permissions, visitor approvals and after-hours access.

A practical solution establishes a clear boundary before the elevator lobby or office corridor, prevents users from walking around the gate line and keeps reception queues away from employee lanes. It also defines how security staff respond to an invalid credential, a forgotten badge or an alarm. These operating decisions are as important as the gate hardware.

How employees and visitors move through the lobby

Employee entry and exit

An employee presents an approved credential to the reader. The access controller checks the permission and, when authorized, sends an opening command to the gate. Passage sensors monitor movement through the lane before the barrier returns to its secured position. Entry and exit can use separate lanes or a bidirectional arrangement, depending on the selected configuration.

RFID cards are a straightforward option for existing badge systems. QR readers or facial recognition terminals can also be evaluated. Credential validity, access schedules and attendance records are managed by the selected controller or software; they are not created by the barrier mechanism alone.

Visitor and contractor access

Keep registration and identity checks at reception or within the chosen visitor management platform. After approval, the platform can issue a temporary credential, such as a QR code or visitor card, for use at a compatible reader. Expiration, permitted entries and host approval depend on the software and integration design.

Provide a separate process for couriers, maintenance teams and people without a usable credential. Reception should be able to authorize passage through an agreed staff control method. A visitor waiting for approval should not block the main employee queue.

Selecting gates for different office entrance areas

Entrance area

Gate option

Main selection considerations

Main corporate lobby

Speed gates such as BLS-HS337

Appearance, reader position, sensor coverage, peak demand and clear passage width

Reception assisted access

Wide swing gate or suitable wide speed gate configuration

Wheelchair access, luggage, delivery movement and staff supervision

Secondary employee entrance

Swing turnstile or tripod turnstile

Access policy, available space and an accompanying accessible route

Separate service or perimeter entrance

Gate selected for the specific environment

Exposure, supervision, security level and connection to the building access system

Use the lobby layout to guide the product mix. A compact cabinet can help where floor space is limited, while a wider passage needs additional clearance for barrier movement. Compare the complete installed footprint, including cabinet widths, passage widths and maintenance access.

BLS-HS337 speed gates for corporate lobbies

BOLAN's BLS-HS337 is a speed gate option for office entrance projects. Its published product information describes an aluminum frame, configurable barrier materials, infrared passage sensing, LED guidance and optional RFID, QR or biometric readers. Reader mounting and finish options can be reviewed against the lobby design.

For a quotation, confirm the exact cabinet dimensions, clear passage width, drive configuration and access interface for the proposed version. Sensor settings and alarm responses should be commissioned for the expected users and operating rules. Tailgating detection supports security staff, but should not be treated as a guarantee that every unauthorized attempt will be prevented.

Integration with the building access control system

Start by identifying the existing controller, reader and software brands. Agree which device validates a credential, which device commands the gate to open and which system stores the event. Confirm the electrical interface, signal timing, direction control and any required feedback before production.

A relay opening signal can operate a gate, but does not by itself provide full data integration. Mobile credentials, visitor databases, elevator destination dispatch and centralized monitoring require separate compatibility review with the relevant system providers. For multi-tenant buildings, tenant permissions and restricted schedules should be handled in the selected access platform.

Where facial recognition is requested, agree on reader performance, enrollment procedures and data handling with the project team. Keep a practical alternative credential or reception assistance route for users who cannot use the preferred method.

Planning lane numbers and peak hour traffic

Size the entrance around the busiest arrival interval rather than total daily occupancy. Gather arrival counts, visitor processing times, entry and exit directions, and the proportion of users who need assistance. Authentication time, walking pace and queuing space all affect the usable capacity.

For example, 600 arrivals over 15 minutes represent an average demand of 40 people per minute. If the project uses an assumed effective rate of 20 people per minute per entry lane, two entry lanes match that average on paper. A third available entry lane would provide additional headroom for uneven arrivals or temporary lane downtime. This is a planning example, not a BOLAN product performance guarantee.

Check shorter arrival bursts as well as the 15-minute average. A lane assigned to exit does not contribute to incoming capacity at that time. Validate the final layout with the proposed readers, operating mode and expected user mix.

Accessible passage and emergency operation

Plan an accessible route within the entrance arrangement from the start. Clear width, approach space, turning space, reader position and barrier movement all need review. A wide gate alone does not establish compliance; the project designer should verify the complete route against applicable local requirements.

Agree on fire alarm input, power-loss behavior, staff override and reset procedures for the selected model. Different configurations may release, open or require an agreed manual action. Test the specified response during commissioning rather than assuming every gate behaves identically. Required escape routes must be reviewed by the responsible building and fire safety professionals.

An office entrance reference from BOLAN

BOLAN’s published Chengdu office building case describes a BLS-HS337 installation with an aluminum chassis, a customized finish, LED guidance and facial recognition terminals. The arrangement used two entry lanes and two exit lanes. It illustrates how gate appearance, credential readers and traffic direction can be coordinated in one lobby project.

A new installation should be designed around its own floor plan and operating requirements. The reference case provides a design example rather than a guaranteed performance result for another building.

Project preparation and support from BOLAN

BOLAN Security is based in Shenzhen, China, and has operated in the access control industry since 2011. We supply pedestrian turnstiles and vehicle barrier products, with OEM/ODM support for case by case requirements. For office projects, we can review gate selection, reader mounting, cabinet appearance and lane configuration with buyers and system integrators.

Send your lobby floor plan, site photos, total available gate width, peak arrival estimate and required entry and exit directions. Include the controller and reader details, accessible passage requirements, finish preferences and installation location. These inputs help define a suitable configuration and a meaningful quotation.

Before installation, agree on mounting positions, cable routes, power requirements and maintenance clearance. Commissioning should test authorized passage, rejected credentials, reverse movement, alarm handling, assisted access and the approved emergency response. Include reception and security staff in the handover so everyday exceptions have a clear procedure.

1
Can office speed gates work with our existing employee cards?
Often they can, using a compatible reader and controller. Confirm the card technology, controller interface and required entry and exit logic before selecting the gate configuration.
2
Can visitors enter using a temporary QR code?
Yes, with a compatible QR reader and a visitor or access platform that validates the code. Expiration and reuse restrictions depend on that platform and must be tested during integration.
3
How many gates does an office building need?
The number depends on peak arrivals, effective passage rate, traffic direction and available space. Include operational headroom and an accessible route instead of choosing solely from total employee numbers.
4
Can the gate appearance match the lobby design?
BOLAN can evaluate finish, branding, barrier and reader mounting requirements through its customization process. Final options depend on the selected model and approved drawings.
5
What information is needed for an office gate quotation?
Provide a floor plan, gate-line width, expected peak traffic, lane directions, access system details and finish requirements. State whether the entrance needs a wide passage, visitor QR access or a specified emergency interface.
