To correctly install a standard tripod turnstile, you need to account for both the physical footprint of the stainless-steel cabinet and the clearance required for the pedestrian passageway.

For a single-lane setup, here are the standard space requirements:

• Lane Width (Passageway): The rotating arm requires a minimum clear passage width of 550mm to 600mm (approx. 22 to 24 inches) to allow comfortable pedestrian flow while effectively preventing unauthorized dual entry (tailgating).

• Cabinet Footprint: This depends on the model type. If you are working with tight corridors, a Vertical Tripod Turnstile (like our compact BLS-T201) requires a footprint of roughly 400mm x 300mm. For high-traffic open lobbies, a Bridge-type Tripod Turnstile is typically longer (around 1200mm in length) to guide pedestrian flow more strictly.

• Wall Clearance: You should leave a small gap of at least 50mm between the turnstile cabinet and the wall for easy wiring access and maintenance.

Crucial Compliance Note: Standard tripod arms cannot accommodate wheelchairs or large delivery carts. If your facility must comply with ADA (US) or EN 17210 (Europe) accessibility standards, you must allocate an additional 900mm (36 inches) of space adjacent to the turnstiles to install a motorized ADA swing gate.
